Exam Overview

CTET stands for Central Teachers Eligibility Test. The Ministry of Education is conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) through the Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi.

CTET is a minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher. It would bring National standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process.

CTET Paper-I is for teachers who wish to teach classes from 1 to 5

Paper-II is for the teachers who want to teach grades 6 to 8. Teachers are selected based on their performance in the written exam, and once they clear CTET, they can apply to schools for the applicable teacher’s posts and get placed.

Ctet Exam Syllabus

The first step to prepare CTET is to be fully aware about the exam pattern and syllabus. The CTET paper for primary level contains questions from Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. The CTET paper for upper-primary level have questions from Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics & Science or Social Studies/Social Science.

CTET Exam Paper Pattern

CTET exam for paper-I has a total of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates need to attempt in two and a half hour duration.

The CTET QUESTION PAPER is divided into five sections.

  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language-I (compulsory)
  • Language-II (compulsory)
  • Mathematics
  • Environmental Studies

Nature & Standard Of Questions In Ctet Paper-I

Questions in paper-I are based on topics given in NCERT syllabus for classes I-V. But the difficulty level of questions can be up to secondary level.

  • Questions in Child Development and Pedagogy subject of paper-I focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years
  • Questions in Language-I focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction
  • Questions in Language-II focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. Please note that language-II should be different than language-I. Candidates need to choose any one language as language-I and other as language-II from the options available in the table.

Nature & Standard Of Questions In Ctet Paper-II

TEST PATTERN FOR PAPER-I, CTET EXAM FOR PAPER-II contains a total of 150 objective-type questions of 150 marks. The candidates need to complete the paper in duration of 150 minutes. CTET question paper for paper

  • Child Development & Pedagogy (compulsory)
  • Language-I (compulsory)
  • Language-II (compulsory)
  • Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teacher)

    OR

    Social Studies/ Social Science (for Social Studies/Social Science teacher)

    OR

    Any one of the above (iv)/(v) - for teacher of any other subject

Questions in paper-II are based on topics given in NCERT syllabus for classes VI-VIII. The difficulty level of questions could be up to senior secondary level.

  • Questions in Child Development and Pedagogy subject of paper-II focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 11-14 years
  • Questions in Language-I focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction

CTET Marking Scheme For Paper- I & II

The marking scheme for papers: Candidates are awarded one mark for every correct answer in the exam. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

The candidates should have a thorough understanding of syllabus; should practice CTET question papers and watch and practice with the help of videos.
