Have you ever wondered what Resilience is? And why it is important. Resilience describes the ability of individual who are exposed to highly disruptive events or adverse situations in life to remain stable in their life on individual level faced with illness or Bankruptcy or community level like Natural disaster or terrorism.

The present crisis Covid –19 dominated the world news. We are witnessing lot of anxiety, worry and instability in our individuals and society. It has become a major obstacle itself. Why and how can we change it? The companies are unlocking and thinking new ways, nowlet’s think how the mind respond to the crisis. The study shows that 58% employees expressed their inability to regulate their attention at work as their mind trapped into a negative thinking and the fear increased this ability more. The people started listening and reading the quarantine stories of others and the chain reaction began. Fear began to narrow our field of vision.

At Present the unfolding events in our society I like to quote the Buddhist parable “once Buddha asked his Student, ‘If a person is struck by an arrow, is it painful? If the person is struck by a second arrow is it more painful than the first one? He then explained, ‘In life we cannot control the first arrow but the second arrow is a reaction to the first arrow. We can change the possibilities of reactions and choices’.

We all haveexperienced the first arrow’s pain that is the corona virus affecting peopletravels bans, supply shortages, lockdown, meeting people, but the second arrow - we have the worry of getting virus to us and our loved ones, financial worries, watching social media , world news of people getting different strains. The first arrow scared us with all the possibilities of anxieties but the second arrow creates positive grounds of resistance in our minds as we know the pain and we can conquer our fears at some level.

Mental resilience in present times means managing our minds to increase the challenge of pain of the first arrow and breaks the second before it strikes physically and mentally. Resilience is a skill of watching our own thoughts and balancing them with our thinking capacity. This skill can be nurtured or learned with our self experiences.

  • CONNECT WITH OTHERS THROUGH COMPASSION in world now the governments are busy controlling the spread of the virus. Our schools are shut. The public events are cancelled and the businesses have enacted working from home. We are facing home isolation but in our country we have opened lots of various fields for people to work and come to offices but we still have fear and anxieties. Compassion starts by realising that how can I help other person to have a better day.

We hear a lot about Resilience nowadays. There is a growing interest in general population to know about it. However learning who isresilient, and who is not, is important. When planning the cost effective interventions to promote resilience. Having a resilient population reduces the costs (i.e. reduces the ‘damage function’) of future crises, which is important in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
